Align boring
All engine blocks and cylinder heads reconditioned by PDM are subject to a thorough inspection.
The process
Align boring
During the inspection, a PDM specialist may discover excessive wear in the bearing saddle areas, or a misaligned main bearing or cam bearing tunnel. PDM's align boring machine is fully tooled to rectify all of these irregularities.
All parts in need of align boring will first have the caps precision ground. After cap grinding, all caps are returned to the engine block or cylinder head and torqued to the correct tension. The bearing tunnels are then precision machined to correct diameter and alignment.
Stage 02 — precision machining
- 01Teardown & cleaning
Complete disassembly, thermal and hot-tank cleaning, and inspection before any metal is cut.
- 02Precision machining
Boring, honing, grinding and align boring — every cut indexed to a true relationship.
- 03Final assembly
Careful assembly in a dedicated clean room, isolated from the rest of the operation.
