After an engine block has been disassembled and thoroughly cleaned, it is visually inspected for any irregularity and wear patterns.
The process
Engine block rebuilding
All engine blocks are carefully inspected for bore diameter or sleeve/counterbore deterioration, deck warpage, deck surface deterioration, and main bearing saddle trueness and deterioration. If irregular patterns exist, further inspection may be recommended.
Cylinder bore and block deck reconditioning is performed on our state-of-the-art boring/surfacing mill. PDM's mill bores and decks a block using the same index and reference points, for a true deck-to-cylinder bore-to-main bearing relationship.
All bored blocks are finish honed to size on PDM's vertical axis, hydraulic honing machine. Our cylinder hone is set up to produce the correct cylinder wall surface finish and cross hatch pattern for proper piston ring break-in and oil film distribution during engine operation.
After machining, all engine blocks are cleaned with a rust inhibitive detergent to remove all machining chips and honing coolant grindings. PDM's boring machine is equipped with a digital XYZ axis measuring device, which allows our specialists to do any type of indexable block machining.
