Magnaflux inspection
Various parts in an engine are subject to stresses and temperatures which can cause fractures.
The process
Magnaflux inspection
Cast iron and steel parts have material properties which allow for magnetic particle inspection. PDM employs the Magnaflux inspection system for detailed part inspection.
The Magnaflux system uses a mineral oil carrier to distribute ferrous and fluorescent microscopic particles over the part's surface and into the fractures of the part. The coated part is then energised with electricity in linear and radial orientations and illuminated with a black light. The minutest of fractures can be detected with this method.
For large part spot inspection, PDM employs a traditional yoke electromagnet and iron shavings.
Stage 01 — teardown & cleaning
- 01Teardown & cleaning
Complete disassembly, thermal and hot-tank cleaning, and inspection before any metal is cut.
- 02Precision machining
Boring, honing, grinding and align boring — every cut indexed to a true relationship.
- 03Final assembly
Careful assembly in a dedicated clean room, isolated from the rest of the operation.
